Almost overnight the Beaufort Bottling Works of Washington grew into
one of the most extensive businesses in the town of Washington. W.
R. Roberson added the "Dr. Pepper" franchise to his list of bottled
drinks and from the outset the popularity of the new drink brought a
comparatively obscure business to the forefront. Dr. Pepper today is
served to more than a quarter of a million people in eastern
Carolina. At the time this photo was taken, only seventeen people
were employed in its manufacture and delivery. Eight trucks reached
the several counties included in the franchise and additions were
being made to the personnel. The Dr. Pepper plant was modernly
equipped and one of Washington's most rapidly growing enterprises. |
