In September 1913, Washington and Beaufort County were practically devastated and cut off from the outside world by the most severs storm or hurricane of which there is any record. Loss to Beaufort County farmers and merchants and others totaled approximately more than 10 million dollars. The following account of this storm is given by James Ellison, local resident who remembers so vividly the big storm.
