This is a copy of an indenture made between Sally Rose, John Anderson, and William Orr on May 31, 1809. The document is entered into Beaufort County Deed Book 8, on Page 40. It relates the marriage of Sally Rose to John Anderson. It further reveals that William Orr for the sum of five shillings conveyed, confirmed, assigned and set over the following five Negro slaves: Hannah, Sam, Hull, Andrew, and Hannah ( a child) for Sally and John to have, use, possess, and enjoy and take the labor and profits. At the time of Sally's death, the slaves were to be shared with her children. If there were no children, the slaves were to be enjoyed by John Anderson, should he be living If he was not living, the slaves would go to whomever Sally gifted of bequeathed them. This within deed was signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of the witness, Caleb Evans and signed by Sally Ann Rose, John Anderson, and William Orr. Thomas Smaw was Clerk of Court.
