John Goldsmith Bragaw was loved by all who met him. He was known as the most beloved man in Beaufort County. "Humanity was his workshop. " His family, his church, and his fellowman were his dearest possessions in life. " He was honored at the St. Peter's Church picnic on June 1, 1959, for his faithful membership. On another occasion at least 500 paid tribute to him. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher who never missed teaching his class more than three times in all his years of teaching, except for the Sundays when he was out of the city. Many people hoped for the opportunity to start their day's work at the office off on the right pitch by hitting the 9:00 o'clock "rush" just in time to walk to work with John G. Bragaw." To know Bragaw was to love him. Even in death he was loved as St. Peter's Episcopal Church was full to overflowing and crowds stood in the rain along the streets with bowed heads to say good-bye. Each of these Washington Daily News articles further tells the story of John Bragaw.
